Central Queensland University (CQU) is one of Australia's most innovative and richly diverse universities. With a network of campuses situated along the east coast of Australia, and international operations extending into the Pacific and South-East Asia, CQU gives you a great choice of locations at which to study.

Location
Central Queensland is home to CQU's regional campuses at Rockhampton, Mackay, Gladstone, Bundaberg, Emerald, and Noosa.

The four Australian International campuses in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne are all located in the heart of the city.

Outside Australia, CQU International has a campus in Suva, Fiji, and also conducts teaching programs in Hong Kong, Singapore and Chengdu.

Language programs
CQU has two splendid language centres at both the Rockhampton and Gold Coast campuses.

Both centres provide excellent tuition in state of the the art classrooms and language laboratories. The English language programs primarily cater for those students who seek to use their English language skills as a pathway to university study.

Employment
International students can only apply for a work permit upon commencing studies. The permit allows students to work up to 20 hours per week during semester and no limits during vacations. International students should note that part-time and casual work is not readily available and such work cannot be the basis for financing you studies.

Research students with awards from the Australian government or the University of Western Australia are only permitted to work up to a maximum of eight weeks during a normal working week.

The transition to campus life
Studying in a new country can be an exciting challenge and very rewarding also. The International Student Support Unit helps to make this transition period successful.
Upon arrival, you will receive assistance with everything from banking to health cover.

University life at CQU is all about developing independently as a student. This is supported by the work of trained student counsellors who provide confidential counselling for everything from orientation to student welfare.
The Orientation program also assists new international students become familiar with their new surroundings.

Transport

  • Public transport
  • All CQU campuses are well serviced by public transport. Buses are a cheap option and taxis may be hired during nights.
  • Private transport
  • Walking or riding a bicycle to the university may also be an option. For bicycles, wearing helmets is compulsory.
  • Buying a car: Buying a car is relatively expensive as there are maintenance costs. For second hand cars, it is advised to have them checked by a qualified mechanic.
  • Driving: All drivers must have a valid driver's licence or a foreign equivalent. The licence must be in your possession at all times. Australia has very strict road rules that must be adhered to and the penalties for breaching the rules are often severe
