International Student Life at CQU

Upon arrival, international students will be invited to undertake many exciting social activities and visits. CQU will endeavour to provide you with all the assistance that you require.

International students associationThis organisation for international students is based at the CQU Rockhampton campus. The organisation performs function including:

• Organising reception and farewell parties
• Organising excursions and visits
• Organising social and cultural activities
• Acting as an interest group for international students

Interested students can attend a reception party for new international students and fill in a membership form or contact any ISA official at any time of the year. The annual membership fee is only $2.

Student employment
Applications for permission to work in Australia as a international student must be made to the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA). Application forms are available online or from the university and the fee is A$55.00.

The permit will normally allow international students to work up to 20 hours per week during the term and no restrictions during vacations.

In order to work in Australia, you will need a Tax File Number (TFN). Applications can be downloaded online or picked up from the university.

CQU assists international students in finding casual employment through services such as career planning and employment preparation.
