CQU Study Abroad

Study Abroad and Exchanges
Studying in Queensland allows you to explore the Outback, the Great Barrier Reef or lush tropical rainforests. It's all about discovering the "real" Australia through a sense of adventure.

Studying at any of the Australian campuses allows you to experience some truly awesome Australian experiences with the locals and at the same time soak in some true Aussie hospitality. CQU offers study abroad and exchange students the opportunity of a lifetime.

The university also acts as a liaison intermediary with a student's government guarantee or lending institution if the student is studying under a loan or grant.

Student visa information
Applicants wishing to study in Australia require a student visa. For a stay of less than 3 months, a short stay visa may suffice. Otherwise, applicants are required to enrol in a registered, full-time program for non-Australian residents in order to qualify for a student visa. All courses offered to international students are required by law to be registered with the Australian government.

Student visa applications can be made online at the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs web site at www.immi.gov.au

Applicants currently residing in Australia can call DIMA directly on 131 881.

Information regarding immigration and legal residency in Australia should be sought from a immigration lawyer/agent. The AA Education Network provides such services for interested students intending to migrate to Australia.

Regional Bonus Points System
Current immigration regulations permit students who study at CQU Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Mackay or Gladstone campuses to be entitled to an additional 5 points towards meeting their permanent residency requirements.

The benefits of studying in a regional area are immense. There are less living costs to worry about and there are also fewer distractions away from study.

Skilled Migration
Currently, students in specially designated study areas such as nursing and accounting which require specialisation accrue an additional 60 points towards meeting their application for permanent residency. Please check the DIMA web site or contact the AA Education Network for free and confidential advice.

Advanced standing/Credit transfer
Studies previously completed at a university, college, TAFE or other post-compulsory institution may entitle you to credit transfer/advanced standing.

Study abroad destinations
CQU offer study abroad students exciting locations to choose from and which also suit your lifestyle. The Brisbane is located in the heart of the CBD while the Gold Coast campus allows access to surfing. Similarly, the Bundaberg and Mackay campuses are close to the Great Barrier Reef and the Australian outback.
