Griffith promoting understanding about Islam
Griffith University's Islamic Research Unit (GIRU) is undergoing a phase of expansion with three current PhD candidates and more applications in the pipeline.
GIRU director Dr Mohammed Abdullah described the functions of the unit as one which sought to promote understanding about Islam within an Australian context.
"We want to create informed opinion about Islam in the Australian community and we want our scholars to remain in the country to promote a harmonious way of living, said Dr Abdullah.
"GIRU provides scholarships for research that is aimed at examining and understanding the condition of Islam and Muslims in Australia to bring about positive and lasting changes within our communities'.
