Macquarie receives $2.9m in Australian research collaboration

Two brilliant systems have been designed by Macquarie University that seek to enhance research collaboration across the Australian research sector.

The Macquarie E-learning Centre of Excellence (MELCOE) designed the Meta Access Management System (MAMS) to assist in cross-institutional communication in a reliable and secure manner.

In a parallel development, MELCOE developed the Learning Activity Management System (LAMS) that now has over 1500 users across 85 countries and has been translated into 17 languages.

These two systems are part of the Federal government's Systematic Infrastructure Initiative, itself a part of Backing Australia's Ability. The two systems receive a combined $15million to further combined research collaboration. It is envisaged that these two systems will tackle the two obstacles to effective communication - sharing information and structuring collaborative tasks across organisations.

The LAMS system is a first step towards sharing electronic information securely across different organisations with competing interests.
